Greektown Casino in Detroit Begins Construction of Permanent Facility

Greektown Casino owners in Detroit, Michigan, recently began the construction of the casino's permanent facility right after the completion of the new parking garage and the new 400-room hotel and gaming floor expansion.

The Mediterranean-themed casino currently offers a total of 2,400 slot machines and 92 table games, such as blackjack and poker. Including the $275 million spent for the temporary facility and $200 million to be allocated for the new hotel, parking garage and gaming floor expansion, the whole project costs a total of $475 million.

The permanent casino facility on top of the new hotel and parking garage is designed to show off the 25,000-square-foot gaming floor expansion, an entertainment theater with 1,500 sitting capacity, meeting and convention room space, a spa and some additional gourmet restaurants. Also, there will be a moving walkway that will connect the hotel and garage to the gaming venue where visitors can play blackjack, poker and other casino games.

"With this groundbreaking, we celebrate more jobs and revenues for Detroit and our state, the start of a magnificent new resort destination in the heart of Detroit, and additional resources to support programs and services for members of the Sault Tribe," said Aaron Payment, chairperson of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, owners of Greektown Casino.

"This is a significant day for the City of Detroit and an historic moment for Greektown Casino," said Marvin Beatty, a local Greektown Casino investor.
