New Pressure on Prescott: Football Tickets
Fresh criticism and scrutiny surrounded the already controversial Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott as news of another favor received from casino tycoon Philip Anschutz was brought to light.
The pressure came out July 11 after it was disclosed that he accepted free tickets to a football match in Los Angeles while on a visit to the Anschutz owned Home Depot Centre. While there, Prescott was given a VIP tour together with other guests and watched the Anschutz owned LA Galaxy team play in the huge sports and leisure center. The game took place in July 2004, while Prescott and some of his officials were guests of Anschutz Entertainment Group.
The Commons standards watchdog, Sir Philip Mawer has likewise asked Prescott to list down the "Dome" gifts that he received from Philip Anschutz. This directive came out after Prescott was given an elaborate cowboy outfit by the casino tycoon during his undeclared visit to the latter's Colorado estate.
Anschutz's firm, the Anschutz entertainment group or AEG is bidding to turn the Millennuim Dome into Britain's first super casino. The Los Angeles visit took place a month after the English Partnerships signed a deal with AEG and Meridian Delta Ltd. for the 20-year development of the Dome.
